002 – REPURPOSED PLYWOOD CHAIR
(2026)

In collaboration with Alice Semenenko, we developed this project as a commentary on the Eameses' use of rosewood timber and the complex trickling effect luxury furniture manufacturing has socially and environmentally. We questioned how we could bring a new object to life that drew from the iconic shape of the Eames Lounge Chair and its material innovation. By designing a chair made entirely from found materials, we layered multiple boards to create our own "plywood".

By understanding rosewood’s extraction and impact, questions about aesthetics and the given value of materials emerged. We played around with the idea of mimicking high-end rosewood plywood with found wood slabs that would’ve otherwise been sent to landfill, creating a juxtaposition between extrinsic and intrinsic value; when are aesthetics valued more than human welfare?

We both participated in the research and development of the chair; I was responsible for the graphic design, focusing on creating impactful B&W visuals that highlight the textures of the repurposed materials.
