003 – GROTTO KNOBS
Exhibited during Furiosalone 2026 as part of “A Bunch of Knobs” exhibition curated by Zaccaria Slater
Grotto Knobs are part of an ongoing exploration of the grotesque in furniture. Made from banksia seeds, they convey both a sense of unease and harmony. Taking from the Japanese concept “Fukinsei” — balanced asymmetry — the organic imbalance within the seed is exposed when turned on the lathe; going from a hard, prickly surface to a fuzzy, almost velvet-like layer forces you to have a second look and question its construction.
